Ywein Van den Brande - off counsel
Ywein Van den Brande (b. 1977) is one of the founders of our law firm. He studied law, information science and economics at the Catholic University of Leuven and Groep T (Leuven, Belgium), the Université de Rouen (Rouen, France) and U.C.L.A. (Los Angeles, USA).
He started his career at Peeters Attorneys-at-law, a law firm associated with Ernst & Young (2000-2001). Thereafter, he joined the technology and intellectual property department of Schuermans & Schuermans (2002-2007). He left temporarily to obtain an LL.M. at U.C.L.A. and work with Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp (Los Angeles, USA, 2003-2004).
With his dual background of lawyer and information scientist, Ywein focusses on IT and IP. He is an active member of the Free Software Foundation Europe and is a member of the editorial committee of the International Free and Open Source Software Law Review. He is also a member of workgroups on information architecture and usability. Ywein is the author of several legal contributions on law and technology, and regularly speaks at conferences. He is a guest lecturer at Groep T.
Since 2011 Ywein became off counsel to our firm. He currently runs his own practice ICT Law Partners with a focus on close "one to one" legal consultancy with respect to IT and IP. & De Bandt continues to call upon his services as external advisor from time to time for large projects or specific issues.
