The Flemish government intends to redesign the radio landscape in Flanders. In this context, the existing partnerships between local radios will be prohibited as from 1 January 2018. These partnerships will be replaced by four so-called “network radio stations” that will each receive a number of frequencies. Fourteen candidates applied for one of these four frequency packages. On 15 September 2017, the Flemish government selected two new players (SBS Media Belgium and Hit FM) and two existing players (Stadsradio Vlaanderen and Vrije Brugse Radio Omroep). The legality of the selection procedure can however be questioned, which has led five radio stations to lodge an appeal with the Belgian Council of State. & DE BANDT represents one of the applicants, Radio Maria.
